What our tenants have to say ...

Some examples of people that have been successfully housed through ADAPT:

Mr M, Penlan

Mr M had recently had a motorbike accident and was living with ex partner in private rented accommodation with no adaptations when our home assessment was undertaken.  Due to the relationship breakdown, it was impossible for Mr M to continue living there and this was having an adverse effect and causing further stress.  When assessed, Mr M was sleeping downstairs and couldn’t access the bath.  Mr M was also due to have further amputation imminently.  His assessment was completed in September and was identified as an applicant in very high priority.  A 2 bedroom bungalow was found for Mr M less than 2 months later in the area of his choice.  This provided him with a higher level of independence with shower facilities, property all on one level and an additional bedroom for family support to sleep over to assist him as and when necessary.

Mr P, Mayhill

Mr P was admitted to hospital for a below the knee amputation and was unable to return home to his Local Authority 3 bedroom house where he had lived for the past 25 years.  During the assessment, it was evident that Mr P (aged 80years) was wheelchair dependent and was given a priority as he was in hospital and unable to return home.  Mr P initially requested to remain in the Mayhill area as he had lived there for most of his life, however, after waiting for accommodation for 8 months he then decided to expand his areas of choice as it was clear that the property type required was unavailable in his original area.  Less than 2 months later, a 1 bed flat with lift access, true level access shower and wheelchair access to all rooms became available for Mr P.  He is now able to live independently within a complex of 120 spacious apartments and has the benefit of on site facilities such as small shop, café, communal hall.

Mr P commented following his rehousing….’I only had a short dealing with ADAPT and I am more than pleased with the result’

Mr L & Mrs O

Mr L & Mrs O were living in a 1 bed g/f Housing Association property which had been adapted for a person with disabilities, however, the property did not meet the needs of Mr L and Mrs O as they were unable to manoeuvre their wheelchairs around the existing accommodation and could not manage with the low entry shower.

Due to the couple’s specific medical requirements, they needed accommodation on one floor with a wet room and height adjustable kitchen. As adapted accommodation is in short supply, Mr L and Mrs O were on the waiting list for approximately 4 yrs before suitable accommodation was found. They now live in a purpose built 2 bed ground floor flat with height adjustable kitchen, wet room and fully wheelchair accessible.

I would like to thank all of those involved with ADAPT and the Local Authority. A prompt, polite and responsive team, that has provided me with a life changing home.

I was treated with care and consideration and after many years of struggling with unsuitable private house, was finally given an outstanding, fully adapted, lovely home. Many thanks to all of the team
